On October 3, 2012, I decided to try a new trail out in my pursuit of a few goals of mine. First, being, you have to mix up your running as much as possible to keep it as fresh as possible. Second, I have had a huge urge to hit the trails after my last serious stint of training for my last marathon. So I decided to tackle this small, but very beautiful trail in Ogden Utah.
I got a late start to my run as I had to work during the morning, and dragged my feet getting out the door. I finally got to the trail at about 6:30 p.m. After a brief stop at the trail head to get some footage off I went.
This trail is somewhat tricky to navigate as it crosses the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, and you also have to cross the canal road. As you can see on my video, and map of my run, I didn't exactly run straight to the top or straight down to my car. In fact, on my way back down I had to use my awesome Garmin watch to get me back to the trail as I had apparently missed my turn from getting off the Bonneville Shoreline Trail and following the trail back down to the trail head. It ended up costing me roughly three quarters of a mile in distance and roughly 5-6 minutes of time.
All and all I enjoyed my 45 minute run in the beautiful mountains above Ogden, and am excited to explore even more of these trails in the future.
Great little trail run on what looks like a perfect Wasatch fall day! Nice one. I am always paranoid of snakes on any of those trails and try to be careful near large rocks or logs. One of the great things about trail running is you do often find yourself wandering off the trail and having to increase the distance or explore new trails even when you didn't want to. It is nice to have a watch though!
You are right, it was a perfect evening for a run on the bench of Ogden. I am still grateful I haven't come across a rattler yet in my trail running adventures. I know my time is coming, HOPEFULLY I see it before he thinks my leg is dinner.

ReplyDeleteGood thing for your Garmin, this could have ended badly.
ReplyDeleteNoah, the Garmin is one of my best purchases to date, if you catch my drift.
