FINALLY, signs of progress are starting to show. My body is starting to feel more and more like it did back in my heyday last year when I was able to clip along the miles in the low 8:00 minute per mile range without really even trying. With that being said, there is still definitely some work to do before we get to where we were before the holidays arrived.
During my last weeks speed workout, my heart rate was always above 90% of max or more, including times where it was 99% of max. I know the more fit I get, this number will also drop, which I am grateful for because there were MANY minutes of uncomfortableness during my two miles of my speed work.
Lastly, on Saturday I was able to finally venture off the flats roads and get a little bit of hill work. I maybe crazy but I REALLY enjoy running hills as they are challenging, however, very rewarding in a multitude of ways. The more hills you run, the better of a runner you will be in my opinion. When running hills, you are able to handle the mental challenges long distance running events, like a marathon, throw at you. So this will continue to be a focal point of my training again this year and hope to climb more miles than ever before.
I am excited where my training is going this year and I can't wait to see where this body is at by the time running season is over. Luckily though, the adventure is just beginning.
