Bonneville Shoreline Trail - Trail run

Finally, the time had come! After enduring a miserable winter in which we received lots and lots of snow (especially in the valleys) and one of the coldest January's ever recorded in this lovely State of Utah, the weather finally had turned warm and I was able to experience my first trail run of the year.

The weather was perfect for a mid March run. Temperatures in the middle 50's, slight breeze, and most importantly, amazing scenery. Unfortunately, the hills start early, and my body quickly struggled with the elevation gains (thanks crappy winter). Fortunately, I was able to slug along, almost snail like as I worked my way up the newly created trail.

I continued to plug along the trail, despite the tired legs, lungs and my heart pleading with me to give in and stop. After trudging along for awhile an unwelcomed, though, somewhat expected, visitor met my path, SNOW, and a fair amount of it slowed my quest to complete my first trail run of the year.

The snow filled terrain quickly enveloped my thought process and shoes! On many occasions I was sinking in the snow over my shoes. My shoes quickly filled with water and my feet were now swimming in ice cold water. Gratefully, I had my trusted Injinji socks to prevent any blisters.

After removing myself from the snow filled trail I was able to get my feet drier just in time to turn around and immerse myself in it all over again.

The efforts to return back to the start is always much easier than your adventure away from the car, as it is almost all down hill. I was able to return back to the car and was mightily grateful for the opportunity to FINALLY "wet" my feet on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.

Lastly, I have included a short video of my adventure yesterday afternoon.

  1. Great post! Between the photography and excellent video it made it absolutely stoked to run with you in two weeks! GIMP has really upped your game and the editing on the video was perfect. It looks like the winter was hard on that goat as well. It isn't often you see them that low which means they must have been hating it up higher!

  2. For some reason, my camera was acting weird that day, causing some, well most videos, to not be as crisp as normal, not sure why. Anywho, The pios came out pretty good considering I used my Kodak to take the pics.
