Running Week in Review - Nine miles and feeling sluggish
Ugh, being out of shape really isn't fun! I guess you have to stop somewhere after taking a fairly significant break from running and am excited to get back into shape again.
This week every run was a struggle. I never felt strong like I could run forever, or felt any signs of progress. Obviously this wasn't the case, but, everyone run was labored. I am grateful though I was able to run four times this last week and know if I can stay consistent, the progress will start to show fairly quickly.
This week I will start to incorporate some strength training workouts. Nothing major, of course, as I can't handle much most likely, but, at least it is a start. My pace has slowed down dramatically since my marathon and to get where I want to be, I really, really need to make this a focus next year.
One thing I would like to do is slim down just a little bit. I currently weigh more than I ever have and would like to be just a little bit more lean come marathon training time. While I'm definitely not on the heavy side by any means, losing just a little bit of weight would feel much better when I run. Guess we will see how that goes. I really won't push the subject too much until after the new years, but, I will try to be a little bit more careful with my eating habits around the holidays.
This week I am hoping to run about 13 miles for the week and continue just building my cardio base. No speed work of any kind, just log some miles and try to enjoy the cold runs as much as possible. Luckily we haven't had a real cold morning yet, like any of these runs, but, the time is nigh at hand before they come my way.
